Accounting

What are my accounting options with DBA?

DBA will run the manufacturing side of your business, which is where you achieve your efficiency gains. When it comes to financial accounting, you have three options: QuickBooks, your existing accounting system, or the DBA financial modules.

Option #1 - QuickBooks

QuickBooks is the worldwide market leader in financial accounting software for small business. Our Financial Transfer can be used with the Transaction Pro Importer utility for QuickBooks, which makes a DBA - QuickBooks combination a true "best of breed" solution.

If you will be changing your accounting system to QuickBooks, you can use the inexpensive Pro edition because the advanced sales and inventory features that come with the Premier and Enterprise editions are handled by DBA and are not needed. The Transaction Pro Importer, available from Baystate Consulting, works with all QuickBooks editions as well as the USA, Canada, UK, and Australia versions.

Option #2 - Your Existing Accounting System

If you are using an accounting system other than QuickBooks and that system can import invoices and journal entries or you are willing to make manual transfers, our Financial Transfer enables you to avoid changing accounting systems.

The financial transfer makes DBA an ideal manufacturing solution for international environments because the core manufacturing system is a universal application without local issues. On the financial side, however, local issues are common when it comes to payroll, taxation, banking, and financial reporting and are best handled by a QuickBooks international version or a local accounting package.

Option #3 - DBA Financials

If you need to change accounting systems and you do not require in-house payroll, as an alternative to QuickBooks you have the option of using the DBA financial modules - Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Banking, and General Ledger - which are included with the product at no extra charge. Payroll is processed outside of DBA and the Payroll Import utility is used to update the general ledger with summarized account totals after each payroll run.

Each works equally well with manufacturing

Keep in mind that with DBA all financial data flow in a one-way direction, from manufacturing to accounting. So whatever option you choose for financial accounting - QuickBooks, your existing accounting system, or the DBA financial modules - each will work equally well with the core manufacturing system.
