QuickBooks

Can DBA link with QuickBooks?

QuickBooks is a popular accounting program that is quite good for small companies in general, but not for a manufacturing environment.

  • QuickBooks inventory, sales order, and purchasing modules are not suitable because they lack basic manufacturing features.
  • QuickBooks is not structured for WIP accounting with overhead absorption, which is essential to manufacturing accounting.
  • The non-enterprise versions of the QuickBooks general ledger "choke out" on the high transaction volumes generated by manufacturing applications.

For a manufacturing company, an integrated accounting and manufacturing system is far preferable to a hybrid system. With an integrated system you avoid data synchronization issues and potential incompatibilities of future versions.

Accounting for manufacturing is different than general accounting and is best done by an accounting system designed to handle manufacturing issues such as WIP accounting, non-invoiced receipts, customer deposits, and automatic account assignments.

Our Implementation Planner guide outlines specific tasks that will help you migrate from QuickBooks to DBA accounting. You can cross-reference your QuickBooks accounts within our standard chart of accounts, for example, which helps you make the transition to DBA accounting.

NOTE: If you are using QuickBooks for payroll and are satisfied with it, continue using it. The DBA labor tracking system is completely independent from payroll, which enables you continue using your existing payroll software or payroll service.
