Sales Orders

Why are sales orders included with the manufacturing system?

Some light manufacturing systems such as MISYS do not have integrated sales orders and use the sales orders in an outside accounting system such as QuickBooks or Sage. This results in two inventories - one for production and one for sales - which complicate stock counts and require synchronization of part numbers, locations, lot/serial numbers, and other inventory-related tables.

By contrast, sales orders are included within the DBA manufacturing system because order quantities and dates provide the demand that drives MRP generation, and order picking updates inventory. All part numbers, locations, lot/serial numbers, and related tables are maintained within a single inventory system.
